Shout out to all the Asian girls let the lights dim sum. That’s right: 圆苑 Yuan Yuan is a family-style chain restaurant in Shanghai but I don’t believe all locations serve all you can eat dim sum so go to this one.
You can order as much as you want (within reason of course). The one condition is that you can only order twice so I would advise placing the first order with all the dishes you want to eat and placing the second order with anything that you liked the first time and want to eat more of. Make sure to ask the server the quantity in each dish because some items are on a per piece basis and you don’t want to end up with one baozi for the whole table. There are some items you will have to add a few RMB for such as prawn dumplings (RMB¥1 per dumpling) and tea (RMB¥5 per person) and those items are marked with their prices. We got 20 different dishes and re-ordered a few that we liked the second time.
There were some dishes that we didn’t know and when we asked our server what she recommended, her response was “just get all of them” without even hesitating. You can literally be like give me 10 egg tarts and they will give you 10 egg tarts.
