Petit Jardin 苏浙小品 (“su zhe xiao pin” in Mandarin) is a Chinese restaurant under the same group as Jade Garden 苏浙汇. It is in a more casual and cheaper tier than Jade Garden (though I think Jade Garden prices are pretty reasonable) with a bit of Canto and Southern China influences mixed into the dishes. Petit Jardin is good food and great value for casual dining as expected to be coming from the King Mang Group, which runs successful casual and upscale chains in major cities. The char siu bao is especially worthy noting. Expect a wait during peak hours as it is located in a high traffic mall.
Someone had fun with the dish names.
Shrimp ball stuffed with goose liver (RMB¥36 for four)
Recommend: yes
Love these hot balls of shrimp, whose centers each contain a small piece of foie gras. An interesting take and this is something I can eat many of!
Egg noodles covered by crab meat and tofu (RMB¥38)
Recommend: maybe
This is a seasonal dish during hairy crab season. While there is not an abundance of crab, for RMB¥38, I’ll take it. Not a fan of the soft noodles at the bottom, which I think would be better if they put crispy fried noodles on one plate, the crab tofu in a separate bowl and pour it onto the fried noodles at the table so the noodles are still partially crispy when eaten. If anything, it serves as a fine tofu dish.
Seaweed flavored fried tofu (RMB¥18)
Recommend: yes
Super soft and delicate tofu under a thin seaweed flavored fried skin. Eat while they are hot or the skin will get soggy if sitting out for too long.
Deep fried pork chop showered in curry (RMB¥48)
Recommend: maybe
I am personally not a fan of this particular curry flavor but the server told us it is very popular with customers. There is a slow cooked egg on top that can be broken and mixed into the dish. I can do without this next time.
Crispy black BBQ bun (RMB¥26 for three)
Recommend: definitely
My favorite and in my opinion the best thing here. They are almost like HK style char sou stuffed pineapple buns (which are rare in Shanghai). I ate like three of these by myself.
Durian egg tart (RMB¥20 for three)
Recommend: yes
As with most durian flavored things, you have to like durian to like this. If you do, these are amazing.
Milk pudding (RMB¥18)
Recommend: yes
Simple end to the meal with a delicious original flavored milk pudding. I almost ate two of these.
