I am back at Remedy 源氣 365, a healthy-without-forgoing-taste concept whose menu was developed by Michelin-starred chef Alvin Leung of Bo London and Bo Innovation in Hong Kong (see previous post for more background). With the turn of the seasons, Remedy 365 has given a facelift to its menu with a selection of new dishes for the next few months of cold weather in Shanghai. Lots of new warming dishes that suffice individually or for sharing. I have highlighted a few of my picks below. My one note is to ask to hold the sauce on the side on some dishes.
Warm water chestnut drink (RMB¥15)
Recommend: yes
Beet root and tomato salad (RMB¥42) with goat cheese, “pat-chun” vinaigrette, greens
Recommend: yes
Beets are delicious and beneficial for blood pressure and the immune system. The goat cheese adds a nice touch of flavor to the salad. Slight overdose on the sauce so I would suggest asking for the vinaigrette on the side.
Winter lamb soup (RMB¥58) with angelica, ginger, longan, jujube
Recommend: yes
Quite soothing for the cold.
Hainan style chicken 5 grain rice (RMB¥68) with ginger-sand and vegetables
Recommend: yes
Pleasantly pleased by this rendition of chicken and rice. Loved the chicken wrapped in its own skin and unique pairing with 5-grain rice and red bean (in lieu of ginger rice in traditional Hainan style). This is a good standalone dish that I would be super satisfied with for a quick lunch or dinner.
Steamed black cod (RMB¥168) with saffron rice wine sauce and mixed grains
Recommend: yes
Flakey cod in a light saffron sauce.
Sweet and sour pork shoulder (RMB¥78) with dirty rice and vegetables
Recommend: maybe
This reminds me of HK char siu and rice. The sauce over the pork is slightly too sweet for me although the dirty rice is very tasty. I think people who enjoy sweet sauces will like this but this is not my personal favorite. Again, ask for sauce on the side if you want to control the sweetness.
Duck confit (RMB¥108) with garlic and beans
Recommend: yes
This duck leg is heavenly crispy and garlicky at the same time. Leg meat is also dark meat, which is even better for me. Though I am not a fan of kidney beans in general, I do like the duck part enough to order this again.
Pumpkin tart (RMB¥28)
Recommend: yes
If a pumpkin cheesecake and pumpkin pie had a baby, this would be it. This is seriously the best baby ever. Best to order one per person; I don’t advise sharing.
Warm chocolate raspberry cake (RMB¥35)
Recommend: yes
Warm chocolate cake with lava that is a mix of chocolate and a hint of raspberry sauce that still worked for me as someone who doesn’t normally like raspberries.
