What to get:
– Burrata with truffle dressing
– The big steak
– Sautéed dragon beans
RAW is a good place for steak. I never got around to trying RAW until now because it is in that neighborhood that people don’t go to unless they lived there. I still don’t live there but someone got me to go. For the longest time I actually thought it served raw food but it is actually a Chilean and Argentinian steakhouse with a sprinkle of raw starters like beef tartare and ceviche. RAW is by the same people behind Malabar, which I always liked and has been around for ages so that was a good precursor to my meal.
Burrata (RMB138/150g) with smoked tomato, creamy avocado, truffle dressing
Recommend: yes
Truffle aroma meets creamy burrata spillage. Perfect combo.
Oysters (market price)
Chilean Wagyu beef tartare (RMB128/120g) with smoked egg yolk
Recommend: maybe
Not bad but it is not the best beef tartare I have had — it is a bit more runny than I like. If you are on a date with a girl, you can order this for aesthetics.
Smoked yellowtail tiradito (RMB98) with purple causa, spicy mango sorbet
Recommend: no
Not a huge fan of raw white fish because I never feel like it tastes like anything. Same goes for sushi — I am all about the dark colored fish.
Lomo Bajo boneless strip loin (RMB1388/kg with 3 side dishes)
Recommend: yes
The main event is, of course, the steak. At RAW, there is no other steak to get than the big steak on the menu. During our visit, it was a Lomo Bajo boneless strip loin and the cut of the day was a rib-eye. If you come here, you have to bring a team and spring for the big steak. I have had the cheaper and smaller Picanha Aberdeen angus rump cap (RMB298/300g) and it was bad and very tough to chew.
Beautifully cooked steak. How, you might ask, did two people eat this? We didn’t finish it but we made an honorable effort.
If you happen to dine here with anyone not keen on steak, there are seafood options on the menu — sea bream with anchovy crust (RMB248 serves 2), teriyaki yellowtail (RMB278 serves 2), Spanish blue lobster rice stew (RMB468 serves 2-3) — but you should just not invite this person to dinner to begin with.
Sautéed dragon beans (RMB28 a la carte; included with some dishes) with chili and garlic
Recommend: yes
This is a must-get side dish sautéed with an addictive chili and garlic mixture.
Lemon & calamansi tart (RMB55)
Recommend: yes
I love lemon tarts. Approved.
