[Shanghai] Cafe Sambal
Cafe Sambal, also with branches in Beijing and Tianjin, serves Malaysian food with a modern twist.
[Shanghai] Ginseng Bar x Oh My Kebab!
Recently reopened Ginseng bar has taste, location, and access to Oh My Kebab! right across the street.
[Shanghai] Coquille
John Liu’s latest venture, named Coquille, is a French and seafood bistro next to Scarpetta.
[Shanghai] Capo
Capo serves Italian food. Before you think pasta and pizza, Italians are also known for their steak and Chef Enzo’s kitchen is a shrine to the cows, some of which are exclusive to Capo.
[Shanghai Restaurant Week] Light & Salt
Regular pricing is RMB¥350 for three courses or RMB¥395 for three courses + dessert. A memorable miso cod but the desserts were sorely disappointing.
[Shanghai] Shanghai Girl Eats x Shanghai Daily Secret Private Dining
The only thing I knew going into this dinner was what I would be eating and who I would be eating with. As for the venue, I got an address and I showed up. But not before wandering around the rows of Jing’an lane houses creepily peeking into residential windows trying to find dinner.
[Shanghai] Tao Heung 稻香
Lunch time, dinner time, weekdays, weekends–there is always a crowd of people standing outside Tao Heung waiting for their ticket numbers to be called. That pretty much sums up Tao Heung (pronounced “Dao Xiang” in Mandarin by the way).
[Shanghai] Tsukiji Aosora Sandaime 筑地青空三代目
My friend, who has one of the finest palates I have had the pleasure to be in company with, goes to Tsukiji Aosora Sandaime once, sometimes twice a week for dinner. That already says a lot about this place without even stepping inside.
[Shanghai] Henkes (Brunch)
Brunch hours at Henkes on weekends are from 11am to 5pm. This is practical because on the days when I miraculously get up at 9am (in my dreams), I can eat early and get on with my day. And on the days when I decide my first meal of the day will be at 3pm, I know someone is still serving brunch.
[Shanghai Restaurant Week] M1NT
The only times I have been to M1NT have been after midnight so stepping into this building at 8pm was strange.
