I like the steaks here. It’s just the prices are outrageous and I don’t have a corporate card to slam down every time I eat here. Actually, I never have a corporate card to slam down anywhere I eat. My friends and I are usually the silly Asian girls with a bottle of wine eating here for no reason while everyone else looks like suits with expense accounts here with company or clients. I guess you can spot us pretty easily.
We will focus on the steaks here, which is what I come to 1515 West for. Please see my previous visit for comments on starters, sides, and service, which I wrote with my eyes rolled so far back in my head.
Robbins Island Grass Fed Wagyu – Ribeye (380 gr/RMB¥758 and 450 gr/RMB¥848)
Recommend: yes
We got two steaks to share among three girls, which was plenty. We asked the server for the fattiest cut on the menu and this is what the chef recommended. You can also ask for the chef’s recommended rarity for your selection, which is usually medium rare from what I have eaten. This is a thicker cut wrapped in a layer of fat. The edge is the best part!
The steaks here are good alone so I never use any of the sauces. When ordering sides, keep in mind that each steak comes with a potato!
Dry Aged Porterhouse (600 gr/RMB¥928)
Recommend: yes
This porterhouse is my go-to on the menu. It cuts easily and has a nice beefy flavor and tenderness to it. Again, sauces are provided but not needed. This is a slightly thinner cut in depth compared to the wagyu rib-eye above.
Between the rib-eye and the porterhouse, I liked the porterhouse more while the other two girls liked the rib-eye more.
New York Cheesecake (RMB¥88)
Recommend: yes
Simple and spot on New York style texture and flavor. I have been pretty pleased with the desserts here so far. I had the coconut creme brulee last time, which I also recommend.
