I think this place is called Far-West. During my first visit, it did not have a name because it had literally opened five seconds ago. During my second visit, the name Far-West had been printed on all the menus so we will call it that.
Franck Pécol, master of French fine dining and pastries (with the exception of Rachel’s) has laid monopoly to Wukang Lu by opening yet another venue — this time a crepe place behind his coffee and ice cream shop, Grains and WIYF, respectively. Far-West serves absolutely delicious sweet and savory crepes. Franck’s crepes taste like everything I imagine a proper crepe would be.
The only downside is that coffee is not on the beverage list — you will have to grab a cup from Grains yourself. Otherwise, a selection of juices, cider, beer, and wine is served.
Far-West (formerly called Suzette)(RMB90) smoked pork lardon, egg, mushroom, cream, cheese galette
Recommend: yes
The key to a savory crepe is that it is thin and crispy and these are exactly that. I tried three savory galettes here and this one with pork bits is the best.
Complète champignons (RMB80) Parisan ham, egg, cheese & mushroom galette
Recommend: yes
This is also another great buckwheat crepe with essential fillings including ham, egg, cheese, and mushrooms. You can see how crisp and thin the crepe is.
Complète tomates (RMB80) Parisian ham, egg, cheese & tomato galette
Recommend: no
Not really sure if the sliced tomatoes really contribute much so not my thing.
Pommes caramélisées (RMB38) caramelized apples crepe
Recommend: maybe
Sweet crepes are soft while savory galettes are crispy. This is a tame choice for dessert but there is better.
Tout caramel (RMB80) salted caramel, caramel ice cream, whipped cream crepe
Recommend: yes
The pommes caramélisées crepe is good but this salted caramel crepe with ice cream blows it out of the water. Salted caramel ice cream from WIYF topped with fresh vanilla whipped cream and almond and toffee bits.
[…] ShanghaiGirlEats highly recommended the Suzette (95), and I always trust her judgment. Filled with crispy, fatty smoked pork lardons, earthy mushrooms, a runny egg, rich cream, and salty cheese, this was galette at its best. Recommend: definitely […]
[…] back his old menu at RAC. While RAC has no affiliation with Franck, it is almost the same menu as Far West plus more (new to this menu are egg sandwiches) but no ice cream. These crepes and galettes taste […]
