Little Catch is a tiny shop across from the Avocado Lady that sells fresh and frozen imported seafood (there is also a larger branch on Hongmei Lu called Andes Premium Catch). [Edit: Homgmei Lu branch is now closed and everything has been consolidated to Wulumuqi Lu!] They also have a few ready-to-eat concoctions such as salmon cream cheese Spread the Bagels and made-to-order poke bowls. Since space is limited, the food is essentially takeaway or you can linger and eat it on the bench outside.
Poke is a Hawaiian raw fish salad. The popular version these days is a poke bowl with rice. There are three rice bowls currently on the menu (RMB55 each):
- Classic Shoyu Ahi Poke: shoyu, chilli, onion, furikake, sesame, toasted cashews, toasted garlic
- Dynamite Ahi / Salmon Poke: spicy mayo, onion, furikake, sesame, toasted cashews
- Sambal Salmon Poke: sambal chilli, garlic honey, furikake, sesame, toasted cashews, toasted garlic
Not bad. I tried both the classic and dynamite bowls — the dynamite salmon bowl won out slightly with its spicy mayo. A bit of fine-tuning in the sushi rice mixture (more moisture, more vinegar) and throw delivery in there, this could be the beginning of poke bowls in Shanghai.
[Edit: I have just tried the sambal salmon poke bowl and it is BOMB. Get that one.]
