[Shanghai] Small Spice
Small Spice | Dianping
Address: 淡水路250号(近复兴中路) – 250 Danshui Lu near Fuxing Zhong Lu (卢湾区 Luwan District)
Date visited: 2014.09 for lunch
Price: RMB¥52-75 for curry rice
Will return: Yes
Small Spice is a little eatery on Danshui Lu serving mostly Japanese curry and some side dishes. Space is limited so this is only good for a quick and easy lunch or dinner in the neighborhood. Delicious nonetheless for a casual bite.
The potato & celery salad (RMB¥40) is classically dressed with a mayo mixture; a bit pricey for what it is in my opinion.
The beef curry omelet rice (RMB¥70) with a hint of spiciness is a portion large enough to share between two people. Quite tender beef and perfectly soft omelet makes this a worthy dish to come back for when I am in the area.
I like to mix some pickled vegetables into the curry for a slightly sweet crunch.
I usually NEVER write comments on blogs but I just want to say thank you for your amazing blog. I’m moving back to Shanghai in a week and i’m quite excited to discover few places you’ve been talking about. Since Sugarednspiced blog move to Paris, I’ve been looking for a new insider’s blog to inspire my food outings while in Shanghai… and your blog do the job perfectly!
Do you have any recommendations for afternoon tea in Shanghai?
Looking forward to get on that plane next Monday and taste all that amazing food!

Hi Ocean,
Thank you so much for reading! I really appreciate you taking the time to give such kind words and I am always so happy to hear from people.
For afternoon tea, Flair is a good choice for the outdoor view right next to the Pearl Tower. The Ritz Carlton is nice too but it does get crowded. I also like to go to Char Bar at Hotel Indigo, which has a nice view from the south end of the bund for afternoon or night snacks and drinks (but I don’t think they have a specific afternoon tea seat, just a la carte menu of small bites you can order from).
I hope you have a great time back in Shanghai!
