Tomatito, another one of Willy Trullas Moreno’s ventures with Chef Gafas in the kitchen, offers tapas at a very reasonable price point. Most tapas range from RMB¥38-88 with only a few topping that range; the most expensive dish we got was a RMB¥195 vat of paella that was easily enough to split. A great spot to stop by to grab a bite before heading upstairs to El Ocho for drinks. Strategic Willy.
We tried both the red sangria (RMB¥175 for jug) and white sangria (RMB¥175 for jug) and unanimously liked the red more.
The sardinillas (RMB¥48) baby sardines with salmorejo & toppings was a treat to start. Surprisingly tasty even though I normally don’t like sardines.
Escalivada (RMB¥48) char grilled vegetables with grilled tuna belly
The ceviche de lubina (RMB¥65) seabass ceviche is for those who like strong Thai and lemongrass flavors.
The croquetas (RMB¥48) grandma’s pork and chicken croquettes felt warm and homey.
Anything with foie gras gets ordered at my table so fuagrás (RMB¥88) seared foie gras on toast with port wine shallots were a given.
The costillas de cerdo (RMB¥65) BBQ marinated pork ribs were dry so this dish will not be at our table next time.
But the picaña (RMB¥65) rump cap steak, chimichurri & roasted potatoes will surely make another appearance next time with its half fat and half meat from the butt. Best eaten together with the potatoes! One of my favorites.
The potito (RMB¥38) low temperature egg with truffle eggplant & foie gras was a mixed bag with the table. I liked it but some people thought it was too runny.
The rotos II (RMB¥35) broken fried eggs with BBQ pork belly, chili & potatoes were also another favorite. Perfectly cooked eggs paired with spicy potatoes.
Calamares (RMB¥35) baby squid with citrus aioli
Lastly, our giant Paella Valenciana (RMB¥195) traditional dry paella with meat & broad beans to finish the meal off. Flavors well-saturated into the rice.
